I have over 20 years experience in bereavement counselling, focusing mainly on parents and their families after the death of a baby from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Whilst working with the Foundation for the Study of Infants Deaths, I ran a support group for parents and gave talks to healthcare professionals to raise awareness of SIDS.
Once we understand how we tick, we can make our own decisions and choices
I also helped to set up a Bereavement Support Unit for other parents who had suffered a baby death through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death and termination.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy for The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre, in Tunbridge Wells, a charity set up to offer help and support for those whose lives are affected by cancer.
I work as a voluntary befriender/mentor for 1-2-1 Youth Befriending, a charity working with young people (6-16) who need individual, non judgemental support.
I have a foundation certificate in Transactional Analysis. I have completed 4 years of advanced clinical psychotherapy training at The Berne Institute, and am now preparing for my MSc examination in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and the award of CTA (Certified Transactional Analyst) which is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I am also a qualified and accredited Life Coach, and have completed 18 months training as a Business Coach.
The principle behind counselling is that it helps to share problems with someone who is there to listen and understand how things are for you the client.
The counsellor is unbiased and non-judgemental and there to offer support and strength during emotional times in a safe and confidential environment.
The model of Psychotherapy I use is called Transactional analysis (TA)
The aim of TA psychotherapy is to empower people through emotional literacy. Enabling people to understand thoughts, feelings and behaviours which are brought about in difficult or stressful situations, raising their self awareness enables them to make informed decisions and choices.
The philosophy of the Transactional Analysis approach is:
TA is also used in organisations, schools, colleges and businesses as well as in clinical settings.
I am a member of the Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA) and the European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA).
I adhere strictly to their code of Ethics for Professional Practice. All Practice is supervised.
